GAITHERSBURG HELP FOOD DRIVE:
Pathways will be collecting non-perishable canned goods during the month of February.
The following items are needed:
Boxes of cereal that are not high in sugar
1 or 2-lb bags of rice
Dried or canned kidney or black beans
Fortified pastas
Spaghetti
Spaghetti sauce in plastic jars
Creamy peanut butter
Canned tuna or chicken
Canned corn or green beans
Plastic jars of grape jam
Please do not to bring in expired foods. We do not give any expired food, no matter how recently so, to our clients. Some people think food drives are a good occasion to clean out their pantries. We respect our clients, so we want them to have food that will last.

SAVE THE DATE: There will be an installation service on Sunday, March 3 during the morning worship service. Reverend Jonathan Der will be installed as the new Senior Pastor of Pathways Baptist Church. We thank God for the work and devotion of the Senior Pastor Search Committee and praise Him for His wisdom in selecting Rev. Jonathan. We look forward to the next new chapter that God will write with us. We also look forward to serving you as we serve our Great Lord and Savior together in this place and our community.

1 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.

What makes a person gifted?
One of the most destructive things we do in our culture is talk about super high-achieving people as being “gifted.”
GIFTS: A gift is something you just do naturally. You are just good if not great at it, and you never had to work at it. It was just there from the beginning.
TALENTS: Talents, on the other hand, take work to develop, but anyone can develop a talent to a very high, even exceptional level, if they are willing to put in the time and practice it takes, studying, reading, watching, and doing. Trying, failing, trying again, failing again, over and over, but each time a little less failing, a little more successful, until you are able to do it, almost without thinking.
What separates gifts from talents is the amount of work you have to do to achieve and maintain them.
ABILITIES: Like gifts, these just are, but they aren’t fully developed.
They are a matter of genetics.
They are a matter of genetics.
SPIRITUAL GIFTS: It’s true that Paul talks about the gifts of the Spirit, so we are clearly talking about God-given gifts that some have and some don’t.
Behind all spiritual gifts is a God who activates all of them in everyone! Not a God who activates a special group of activities called “gifts” in a few select, special people.
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

God has given everyone abilities to build others up and help shape the kingdom of God.
Don’t ever think of others as gifted while you are just normal. There is no such thing as “gifted.” Some people develop talents to extraordinary levels, but they do it through many years of instruction, hard work, practice, passion and drive.
And there is no such thing as just normal.
You are a child of God, and that marks you as extraordinary. Extraordinarily loved, and capable of extraordinarily loving.
These are the greater gifts. Strive for them.
