The Text in Context, Part 1

"'... and they went and entered a Samaritan village to prepare for him. But the people there did not welcome him, because he was set on going to Jerusalem' (Luke 9:52-53). I. Jesus Set His Face

II. Who will follow Jesus?
- The Samaritans
- James and John
- "Would-Be Followers of Jesus"

III. Where is Jesus calling you to follow him?

1. Pray over how Jesus may be calling you to follow him.

2. Discern with people you trust where Jesus may be calling you.

3. Take steps to follow him.

1. Were you familiar with the phrase "Jesus set his face towards Jerusalem" before this study of Luke? What do you think this phrase means?

2. Why do you think the Samaritans said no to Jesus?

3. Why do you think James and John are so eager to harm the Samaritans? Do you think Jesus' followers today are similar to them? Why or why not?

4. In verses 9:57-62, Jesus rebuts multiple "would-be followers." Why does Jesus dissuade them?

5. How do do you determine God's call on your life?

6. Where might Jesus be calling you to share the hope he proclaims regarding God's Kingdom entering into the world?
