The Lord is Our Sustenance: Rhythms of Rest and Roads of Renewal
"The Lord is Our Sustenance: Rhythms of Rest and Roads of Renewal" We humans have a restlessness problem. Whether wrestling with over-busyness, loneliness, or a lack of vision or purpose, many find themselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually tired...and desperately longing for any kind of hope. In this message, Pastor Chuck calls us to see Jesus standing on the field where we live, inviting us into true rest. Filled with practical ideas that can bear immediate fruit, this is a welcomed message for the over-tired and the weary.

The Lord is our Sustenance:
Rhythms of Rest and Roads of Renewal
“The biggest disease in North America is busyness.” Thomas Merton (1915-1968)
1/3 of adults in the U.S. are chronically sleep-deprived.
The average smartphone user clicks, swipes, or touches their phone 2,617 times/day. (Millennials & younger = TWICE that.) Average smartphone use is 8 hours & 41 minutes/day (texting, calls, social media, web browsing, YouTube).
42% of Americans say they experience “a significant amount of worry and stress” on a regular basis.
37% (2 in 5) feel their mental health is ‘fair' to ‘poor’ at the present time.
Our souls, bodies, and spirits have a RESTLESSNESS problem. We must stop trying to IGNORE what God is crying to RESTORE.

God Labors for our Physical Rest. (He’s working, so you can stop.)
“He makes me lie down in green pastures” Ps. 23:2
“Pasture” = “The habitation or home of the shepherd.” God is inviting you to LIVE where He resides!
Most of us fail to physically rest because our souls have convinced us there’s still work we must DO in order to BE enough. Ironically, it is only when we find our worth in Him that we begin to rest and true fruit follows.

How can we follow the Good Shepherd into Rhythms that Restore our Physical Rest that leads to our soul’s rest?
Choose Daily Rest: Make a friend of sleep (Ps. 127:2)
Choose Weekly Rest: Honor the Sabbath as Holy (Gen. 2:2-3)
Choose a Lifestyle of Rest: Guard our YES by Honoring ‘Margin’ (Eph. 5:15-16)

God leads us to emotional rest.
“He leads me beside quiet waters.” Ps. 23:2
Quiet: Resting place, quiet, peace, consolation, intense happiness, clarity that allows one to find appropriate expression for their thoughts.

How can we follow the Good Shepherd into Rhythms that Restore our Emotional Rest?
Set “Do Not Disturb” Times (Weekly Sabbath, Daily Phone Jail; ‘Off’ Hours with no ‘To Do’s,’ but to simply BE with the people God placed before you)
Make Space for Delight (Find what refreshes, inspires, and fuels you, & DO it; Zeph. 3:17)

God longs to bring us to spiritual restoration, and then to breathe restoration through us.
“He restores my soul along paths of righteousness for His Name’s Sake.” Ps. 23:3
Restore: To Turn Back, Refresh, Completely Repair
Righteousness: what is right, just, good : “Becoming again what you were always meant to be.”
