Getting Started

I. Horeb (also known as Sinai) was the primary gateway God used to relate Himself to early Israel.

A. We must see Horeb historically and spiritually; collectively and individually.

1. As we have said, Horeb is not about the perfection of the flesh (self), but rather the abandonment of flesh.

2. We cannot cast out the flesh; we cannot disciple a demon.

B. There is a different between soma and sarx.

C. There is a place for personality.

D. There is a place of immunity.

E. There is a place of exemption.

II. Understanding why we are on the mountain

A. Protection

B. Revelation

C. Correction

D. Sanctification

III. I believe every Christian must understand and experience “The Wilderness.”

A. Israel leaving Egypt.

B. Jesus’ example.

C. It is here we learn that “man does not live by bread alone, but by every word from God’s mouth.”

D. This points us to the very breath of God - The Holy Spirit Reality (“Ruach” and “Pneuma”).

IV. “Holiness is greater than Perfection.” Robert Reeves

A. Sanctification

B. Consecration

C. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. Romans 14:17 NIV

D. As Jesus taught (“seek first the Kingdom of God”), prioritize your spiritual life over your earthly, natural life.

E. Means of Grace:

1. Scripture

2. Prayer

3. Worship

4. Fellowship (The Church)

Christian Life Lessons

1. We do not believe in desolation for its own sake. Our focus is on “the by-products” (“Jesus went forth in the power of the Holy Spirit.”).

2. Encounters with God are not designed to disqualify us or separate us from God, but rather to draw us closer and to change our walk and teach us to build altars (Jacob became Israel when these two things happened.).

3. The Mountain of God is designed to produce a spiritual “heft or weight” into our lives.

• Cast out; Crowd out; Displace.

• Our greatest weapon is His Presence.

4. Desolate times can actually clarify our purpose.

• Elijah was actually the forerunner for Elisha.

• John, the forerunner for Jesus, was said to move in the spirit and ministry of Elijah.

• See Malachi 4:5-6; Matthew 17:11
