January 28, 2024 | Generous Giving

Generosity is being kind and selfless in sharing money or valuables with others. It is often attributed to God in His loving and giving nature in giving us all we have and in the giving of His own Son, Jesus. The essence of the Gospel is the generosity and compassion of God. It’s ours to emulate!

NOTES | Generous Giving
Acts 2:42-47
They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need. Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Generosity is the quality of being kind and selfless in sharing money or valuables with others.

The tithe belongs to the Lord.
Matthew 23:23

Generosity flows out of obedience.

Acts 2:44-45

Acts 4:34-35
…all who were owners of land or houses would sell them and bring the proceeds of the sales and lay them at the apostles’ feet, and they would be distributed to each as any had need.

Acts 5:4
While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control?

2 Corinthians 9:6-7
Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
Generosity expands ministry

Acts 2:47
And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Acts 6:7
The word of God kept on spreading; and the number of the disciples continued to increase greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith.
