The Foundation of a Wonderful Life - 1 Corinthians 3:3-15

We are in life hoping for good things and a good life experience during our time here on planet earth.

But how do we gain that?
Is there anything that stands in your way from gaining it?

Paul says yes.
As speaks to the believers in Corinth, he gives them the diagnosis of why they are struggling to move forward into a beautiful life.

James 4:13-14 says ""Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."

However many days you have been granted here on earth, how will you spend them? How can we ensure that the rest of my days are the best of my days?

1. The Problem Exposed: Worldly thinking. verses 1-2

This had been blocking God's wisdom and truth from making it into their logic. Which in turn was keeping them from the understanding effecting their lives.

A world-based mindset is unable to receive godly wisdom because it doesn't make any sense to the carnal mind. It seems foolish to them.

2. The Problem Explained. verse 3

What does carnality or worldly thinking look like? Check out verse 3 below.

He narrows the focus. Humanity itself is the real problem. We think that humanity itself is the answer to the problem of humanity. Read verses 4 and 5 below.

That's like grabbing your own hand to help yourself out of a deep hole. It'll never work.

You need someone who exists outside of the "hole" of the human condition. Jesus is the only human who has not been touched by the corruption in this world.

3. The Problem Extinguished - verses 6-8

Paul lays out that we are powerless no matter what our work or effort because only God can make life actually happen.

In a nutshell, you can't look to humanity to fix humanity. We can do a lot of good. Just like you can plant a seed. You can water the ground. You can expose it to sunlight. But the actual lifegiving spark only comes from God.

4. The Solution Extended - verse 11

We need a foundation and there is only one. Read verse 11.

With Christ as our foundation as life-giver and life-sustainer, we can now build. Our works will have power and stand strong. It must start with Christ as the primary focus and foundational power of life.

HOW we build matters. verses 12-15

This happens as we maintain a focus on eternity. What are you building toward?

What's our take-away?
Seek to grow spiritually and the rest of life will follow suit. Take in His truth regularly and let it change the way you think and see life. Then with this as your focus just live life. What you do and why you do it will automatically be in line with eternity. You don't have to think to hard about it. Get it right in the beginning and the rest will follow.
