Week 4 – Get Rid of Your Guilt
If you want to change your habits, let God change your heart.
2 Corinthians 7:9-10 NIV
... yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended ... Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
Godly Sorrow --> Repentance --> Salvation
Worldly Sorrow --> Remorse --> Spiritual Death
We tend to accuse others and excuse ourselves.
Isaiah 5:20 NIV
Woe to those who call evil good …
Changing the wording doesn’t change the sin.
Romans 3:23 NLT
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Until you see yourself as a sinner, you won’t see your need for a Savior.
Remorse is not the same as repentance.
Rationalizing your sin is the first sign your heart is growing cold.
Confess quickly.
Repent wholeheartedly.
1 John 1:9 NIV
If we confess our sins, [God] is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Matthew 5:4 NIV
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
Romans 2:4 NLT
Don’t you see how wonderfully kind, tolerant, and patient God is with you? Does this mean nothing to you? Can’t you see that his kindness is intended to turn you from your sin?
Talk It Over
Start talking. Find a conversation starter for your group.
· Have you started any of the habits from this series? What are you learning so far?
Start thinking. Ask a question to get your group thinking.
· Which part of this message was most impactful for you and why?
· How do you typically feel when you hear words like “sin,” “confession,” and “repentance”? Is there anything your LifeGroup can do to make you feel more comfortable talking about these topics?
· Read 2 Corinthians 7:9-10. What are some ways godly sorrow is different than worldly sorrow?
Start sharing. Choose a question to create openness.
· Talk about some of the dangers that come with rationalizing sin. How could this have a negative impact on your relationship with God and others?
· Do you need to confess and repent because of a current sin in your life? Use this time to talk about that with your LifeGroup, and then spend time praying together.
Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.
Father, thank You for being kind and patient with us, even when we fall short and sin. Help us to see when we’ve sinned, to confess quickly, and to repent wholeheartedly. In Jesus's name, amen.
Start praying. Be bold and pray with power.
Father, thank You for giving us everything we need. We believe that You are enough. Please give us less of what doesn’t matter and more of what does. Help us remember that You are what matters most. In Jesus’ s name, Amen.
Start doing. Commit to a step and live it out this week.

Leader Tip
This week’s message was about sin, confession, and repentance. Before you get started, consider how you can ensure your LifeGroup feels like a safe place to talk about these topics. You might also consider splitting into separate groups for men and women.

God tells us in Malachi 3:10-11 to test His faithfulness by returning the first 10% of our income to Him. This is called the tithe. Countless people experience His blessings when they tithe, but the first step can be the hardest one to take. The LCC Three-Month Tithe Challenge is a great way to take your next step toward experiencing God’s faithfulness.
