The lesson for the crowd:

Jesus is the shepherd-prophet-king promised by God to rescue people from sin and death and bring them into an abundant life.

The lesson for the disciples:

To participate with the shepherd-prophet-king in giving the abundant life to those in need, because their abundant life will never run out.
