Abide in Christ
Locations & Times
903 W Katella St, Springfield, MO 65807, USA
Sunday 10:30 AM
We must abide in Christ because -
• He is The true vine –
• He is The true source of fruit
John 15:16 (ESV)
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
• He is the true union between God and His people
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The only way to live the fruitful life that proves our union with Christ true and glorifies God is to abide in Christ as He abides in us.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
• We abide in Christ by trusting Him, His power, His grace, His work
• We abide in Christ by filling our minds with His Word
Psalm 119:11 (ESV)
I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
• We abide in Christ by obeying His commands
“Such words must so lodge in the disciple’s mind and heart that conformity to Christ, obedience to Christ, is the most natural (supernatural?) thing in the world.” – D.A. Carson – (Pillar New Testament Commentary)
“In a nutshell, abiding in Christ means allowing His Word to fill our minds, direct our wills, and transform our affections. In other words, our relationship to Christ is intimately connected to what we do with our Bibles!” – Sinclair Ferguson – (Ligonier)
• We abide in Christ by praying in His name
John 14:13 (ESV)
Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
John 15:16 (ESV)
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
John 16:23-24 (ESV)
In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
• We abide in him by bearing witness to Him in the world
John 13:20 (ESV)
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.”
John 15:18 (ESV)
“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you.
John 17:18 (ESV)
As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.
John 20:21 (ESV)
1Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.”
“We go, not because we are worthy, or equipped, or attractive, or skilled, or experienced, or in any way suitable and appropriate. We go because we have been summoned and sent.” – Bruce Milne – (Bible Speaks Today)
