There is Hope
Romans 15:13
Pastor Jerry Koller
Notice how the first mention of the word hope is used in connection with Almighty God. Paul calls God the God of hope.
· Hope is a characteristic or attribute of God.
God is the source and dispenser of hope.
…as you trust in Him.
· This little phrase clearly shows how God works in and through us.
· We have a greater understanding of what joy and peace are as we trust in Him.
Overflow means to be over and above, to abound; to have in abundance. It means to flow past (or beyond) the limits.
Biblical hope is something that will come true because it is a strong and confident expectation.
Hope is fixed on God.
The hope that Paul refers to has three elements to it.
· trust
· expectation of the future
· patience in waiting
The element of trust: Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord…(Psalm 40:4)
Hope contains an expectation of the future.
Jesus is Hope personified.
Hope deals with patience in waiting.
APPLICATION
God is a God of hope.
Hope comes through trust in God. You can trust Him. Will you trust Him more?
Hope contains expectations of the future.
Finally, hope comes through patience as we wait for God to complete His plan to redeem a people for Himself.
Let your hope overflow to the glory of God.
