Key Verse: Acts 23:6-8
1. Pharisees



a. They were devoted to strict adherence to the law.
b. They Emphasized traditions (oral tradition and the law).
c. They were preoccupied with external appearances versus inward transformation (Matt 23:25-28)
d. They Questioned Jesus – Matthew 12:1-14
e. They were upset about the disciples not following tradition – Matthew 15:1-20
f. They tried to trap Jesus with questions about taxes and the resurrection (Matthew 22:15-46)
g. They criticized Jesus for dining with tax collectors and sinners, questioning His association with them. Mark 2:13-17
h. A Pharisee invited Jesus for a meal but was critical of Him for not performing ritual washing before eating. This led to a series of rebukes from Jesus against the religious leaders' hypocrisy. Luke 11:37-54
i. The scribes and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery before Jesus, attempting to test Him by asking if she should be stoned according to Mosaic law. John 8:1-11
2. Sadducees
a. The Sadducees approached Jesus with a hypothetical question about marriage and resurrection, trying to challenge His beliefs. Matthew 22:23-33
b. The Sadducees posed a question to Jesus regarding the concept of resurrection, using an example of a woman who had been married to seven brothers. Mark 12:18-27
c. The Sadducees questioned Jesus about marriage and resurrection, attempting to undermine His teachings. Luke 20:27-40
3. I am going to see… Acts 4:13-14, 20
a. 2 Kings 4:26 – It is well, a statement of faith in what she would see.
b. Psalm 27:13 – of this we are confident that we will see the goodness of God in the land of the living.
c. John 20:29 – blessed are those that have not seen but believe.
d. Romans 4:20-21 – Abraham believed that God would provide.
e. Hebrews 11:19- Abraham believed that God would resurrect Isaac.
f. Mark 9:29 If you can believe, all things are possible.
g. Revelation 1:7; Matthew 24:20, 1 Thessalonians 4:17; I John 3:2, Hebrews 11:1
