“Warning Label" Sermon Questions
1. "Jesus taught more about wealth than any other social issue - more than marriage, politics, work, sex, or power." ~Dan Doriani. If Jesus discussed money issues so often, why do you think so many Christians don't believe they struggle with greed, the worship of money, or the misuse of money?
2. God gives us wealth for basic needs (1 Tim 6:8), for enjoyment (1 Tim 6:17), and for generosity (1 Tim 6:18). In which of those three areas do you struggle the most? What do you think is underneath your struggle?
3. How are you tempted to invest more in this world (James 5:3) than in the Kingdom? What is one practical thing you can do to store up less treasure here?
4. It is easy to understand how storing up excessive material possessions is evidence of worshipping money. What is evidence that a person without a lot of money struggles with the idolatry of wealth?
5. Name some unapparent ways that Christians or churches treat workers unjustly (James 5:4) under the banner of "being good stewards"?
6. Where do you see Jesus transforming your relationship with material things?
