Sermon Notes
“Think of it. Jesus left the comforts of heaven and came into our universe,
our pasture, to smell like sheep! Jesus sweated like we do. He walked our pathways, braved our wolves, faced our temptations, and shared our struggles. The Holy One of Israel came in Jesus Christ to be our good shepherd.”
Dr. Lynn Anderson
To truly understand the IMMENSENESS of the Shepherd, we must acknowledge the REALIZATION that we are sheep.
The Shepherd KNOWS His sheep and GIVES UP His life for them.
“Recognition of the voice of the shepherd involved familiarity with it. The summons of Jesus brought response from those who finally followed Him because in Him they recognized the accents of Jehovah who had already spoken to them in the revelation of the Old Testament. As Peter state in John 6:68, “Thou hast the words of eternal life.” The inherent quality of Jesus’ teachings identified Him as the true Shepherd of souls. This concept is supported by the Shepherd’s own claim stated in verse 30, “I and the Father are one.”
Merrill Tenney
The PARALLEL of the Good Shepherd and the twenty-third psalm is of God’s SACRIFICIAL LOVE.
KNOW CHRIST AND MAKE HIM KNOWN!
