The Big Idea:
Lack nothing now and forever through tested faith in Jesus.
1. Introduction to James - James 1:1
a. The author is James, the younger brother of Jesus
b. The recipients are Jewish Christians who had been "dispersed" to other nations as a result of persecution.
2. God wants us to LACK NOTHING! - James 1:4
a. God does not want us to lack anything that lasts forever.
3. God allows TRIALS to test our faith - James 1:2-3
a. Trials of various kinds
b. "Count" it all joy
- "Consider" or "reckon" it joy because of what you know.
c. The testing of faith produces "steadfastness."
- Like a muscle that becomes strong because of resistance, faith is strengthened through trials.
4. God gives WISDOM in the midst of trials - James 1:5-8
a. Come to God, admit your lack, ask for His wisdom and strength to stand up under trials.
b. God will give generously if we are not "double-minded."
5. God gives ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE on wealth and possessions - James 1:9-11
a. The wisdom of God gives eternal perspective that evaluates things by spiritual and not material standards.
6. God gives the CROWN OF LIFE - James 1:12
a. Eternal life! Abundant life! The utter absence of ALL LACK!
