Mark 10:41-45
Hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with James and John. Calling them to Himself, Jesus said to them, “You know that those
who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
The Great Deception
Mark 10:37
They said to Him, “Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory.”
Ambition for honor is blind.
Ambition for honor is divisive.
Mark 10:41
Hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with James and John.
Ambition for honor is arrogant.
Mark 10:42
“You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them.”
James 3:16
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.
The Great Call
v. 43-44
Matthew 11:11
“Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.”
Mark 10:43
“..whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant…”
Mark 10:44
“…and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all.”
To love one another is to serve one another.
1 Peter 4:10
As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
Galatians 5:13
For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Matthew 25:40
“‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’”
When we do this, we serve Jesus by representing Him to people.
The Great Example
Mark 10:45
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

“But I am among you as the one who serves.”
