Two Services
THIS SUNDAY | Due to growth and growth to come, we are splitting into two services. They are at 9am and 10:30am. Wondering about your kids? Exactly the same, except two different services and you have to pick your kids up after each service. No children's programming between services.

Two Services
THIS SUNDAY | Due to growth and growth to come, we are splitting into two services. They are at 9am and 10:30am. Wondering about your kids? Exactly the same, except two different services and you have to pick your kids up after each service. No children's programming between services. (I put it twice because it is pretty important. We are switching to two identical services. One earlier than our present service, 9am and one later than our present service, 10:30am.)

Journey Groups
Journey Groups are back! Check out a list of Journey Groups to choose from at: https://bit.ly/47rTOaS , at the welcome desk, or on our website.

Wednesday Night Dinner
This Wednesday | Starting September 13 | 5:30-6:15pm | Bring the whole family out and we’ll take care of preparing dinner. The suggested donation for an individual is $4 or feed the whole family for no more than $20. Great food, great fellowship, and a great deal! Just to make it easier for planning, could let us know if you are coming to the first dinner? https://forms.gle/ZyRLm8GoHpP7JwFu9

Student Ministries Rummage Sale
September 21-23 | It is almost time for our students' annual Oktoberfest garage sale. They start taking donations, on Sunday, September 17.

Alabaster Offering
Sunday, September 24 | Alabastor offering is an additional offering that we take for global missions that provide funds for property and buildings for churches and missionaries around the world. The name is based on the story of the woman who poured perfume on Jesus's feet. One avenue of giving is Alabaster boxes. Earlier this year, we distributed boxes to collect change in and we encourage people to bring those boxes in. We will be taking an offering September 24 of those boxes and other monies.

Craft & Vendor Fair
Saturday, December 2 | Student Ministries will be hosting their annual Craft and Vendor Fair this year. Contact Melody Grimm or Pastor Marcus for more information on being a vendor.

Employment
We are still looking for a part-time custodian. Go to the employment page under resources on the church website, www.mantenonazarene.org, if you are interested or want more information.

MC Milestones
Have you heard that our church is beginning something new and exciting with the seniors in our church and community? It is called MC Milestones. You will be hearing more about this senior initiative in the weeks to come. Questions? Curious? Call or text Teddie Hill at 815-386-0607 or email at mcmilestones@mantenonazarene.org.

Student Leadership Council
Students in grades 7th-12 are invited to be part of a group of student leaders who are committed to love God, journey together, serve others, and share Jesus through the Student Ministry of Manteno Church of the Nazarene. The council will meet monthly, generally on the first Sunday of the month at 9am. Within the council are five appointed positions: chair, secretary, publicity coordinator, social coordinator, and encouragement coordinator. If interested in one of these 5 roles, complete an application and return it to Heather Day by Sunday, September 17. For details, see Marcus or Heather.

Since Jesus Came Into My Heart
Expand
Verse 1
What a wonderful change in my life has been wrought
Since Jesus came into my heart
I have light in my soul for which long I had sought
Since Jesus came into my heart

Chorus
Since Jesus came into my heart
Since Jesus came into my heart
Floods of joy o'er my soul
Like the sea billows roll
Since Jesus came into my heart

Verse 2
I have ceased from my wand'ring and going astray
Since Jesus came into my heart
And my sins which were many are all washed away
Since Jesus came into my heart

Verse 3
I'm possessed of a hope that is steadfast and sure
Since Jesus came into my heart
And no dark clouds of doubt now my pathway obscure
Since Jesus came into my heart

Verse 4
There's a light in the valley of death now for me
Since Jesus came into my heart
And the gates of the city beyond I can see
Since Jesus came into my heart

Verse 5
I shall go there to dwell in that city I know
Since Jesus came into my heart
And I'm happy so happy as onward I go
Since Jesus came into my heart

Be Real: Authenticity
John 8:31-32, 18: 37-38
September 10, 2023

Fakebook Status: the modern practice of revealing small tidbits of fun and laudable personal information publicly in an effort to convince people (and maybe yourself) that your life is better than, or at least no worse than, that of others.

“We’re lonely but we’re afraid of intimacy.”

“[Digital technology] can provide the illusion of companionship without the demands of friendship.”
Sherry Turkle

John 18:37-38
“In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
“What is truth?” retorted Pilate.

Inauthenticity: presenting ourselves as better than we are.

John 8:44
“[The devil] was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”

Hebrews 6:18
...it is impossible for God to lie...

Proverbs 12:22
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.

Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Jeremiah 31:3
“I have loved you with an everlasting love.”

1 John 4:10
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

2 Timothy 2:13 NIrV
Even if we are not faithful, he remains faithful. He must be true to himself.

1 John 5:20
We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

John 14:6
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 16:13
But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth.

John 8:31-32
“If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Relationships only thrive where there is trust and trust only thrives where there is truth.

Transformation begins when inauthenticity ends.

Verse 1
Oh I have days I lose the fight
Try my best but just don't get it right
Where I talk a talk that I don't walk
And miss the moments right before my eyes

Pre-Chorus
Somebody with a hurt that I could have helped
Somebody with a hand that I could have held
When I just can't see past myself
Lord help me be

Chorus
A little more like mercy
A little more like grace
A little more like kindness goodness love and faith
A little more like patience
A little more like peace
A little more like Jesus
A little less like me

Verse 2
Yeah there's no denying I have changed
I've been saved from who I used to be
But even at my best I must confess
I still need help to see the way You see

Bridge
Oh to feed the beggar on the street
Love to be Your hands and feet
Freely give what I receive
Lord help me be

I want to put You first above all else
Love my neighbor as myself
In the moments no one sees
Lord help me be

Ending
A little more I'm living
Everything I preach
A little more like Jesus
A little less like me
