If The Lord Wills (James 4:13-17)

Sunday, August 20, 2023--James: A Living Faith Series, Message #18 by Pastor Doug Corlew

Locations & Times

1000 S Main St, Alta, IA 51002, USA

Sunday 8:30 AM

Sunday 10:00 AM

When does careful planning become arrogant presumption? When we forget...

1. The UNCERTAINTY of LIFE (v 13-14).
2. The SOVEREIGNTY of GOD (v 15-17).
Sermon Discussion
Here are a few questions for 1:10 small groups, family devotions, or personal meditation, as we seek to apply God’s Word to our lives.

1. Opener: Are you one who prefers to operate with a to-do list or to go with the flow?

2. Read James 4:13-17. What stood out to you from this week’s passage or sermon?

3. Have you experienced a life-altering event or development that has greatly changed your plans? How did you respond to that?

4. When does “careful planning” turn into the sin of “arrogant presumption” in your heart?

5. What is wrong about the secular belief that we are “masters of our own fate”?

6. In v.14, James refers to our life as “a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” What do you find encouraging and/or challenging about this?

7. Do the desires and plans that you hold onto tightly also align with God’s desires? How can you faithfully find out if they are?

8. How does this passage help instruct us on how to make plans for the future?

9. Share what you have been learning in your personal Bible reading this week.
