Lo Davis is starting back up teen quizzing at our church this season. Don’t know what teen quizzing Is? Sort of like quiz bowl, over one or a couple short books of the Bible. For a better explanation, there will be a meeting on August 13, this Sunday, after church in the sanctuary to explain and promote. Teen quizzing is for grades 6th-12th and they will practice on Sundays at 5pm.

They are hosting an open house on August 25 if you are interested.

Media and Music Workshop
Saturday, August 26 | Calling all tech team and worship band, and all people who have thought, "I'd be cool if I was on tech team or on stage in the worship band." We are having a training day on August 26 in the morning. We invited some outside experts to evaluate what we are doing and help us come up with ways to improve, or just congratulate us on our excellence. We will be dividing up into small teams to work on the different aspects. It will, hopefully, be educational.

Crisis Care Kits
Crisis care kits are sent out by the Nazarene Church all over the world when disaster strikes. The kit is made up of personal care items and is designed to get you thru the first couple hard days after disaster strikes. Kits are assembled by individual churches and sent to warehouses where they wait till they are needed. Last year, the warehouse that we ship to made 15 shipments, which was $1.8 million dollars in fair market value. Recently the kits have gone to Cuba, Ukraine, and Turkey. We continuely collect for these kits, but are in special need of a few items at this time. We are looking for Shampoo (12-18oz), Toothpaste (4-6.4oz), and Handtowels. Donations can be dropped in the box in the coat room.

How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Unending love amazing grace

Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing
Expand
Verse 1
Come Thou fount of ev'ry blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise
Teach me some melodious sonnet
Sung by flaming tongues above
Praise the mount I'm fixed upon it
Mount of Thy redeeming love

Verse 2
Hitherto Thy love has blessed me
Thou hast brought me to this place
And I know Thy hand will bring me
Safely home by Thy good grace
Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wand'ring from the fold of God
He to rescue me from danger
Interposed His precious blood

Verse 3
Oh to grace how great a debtor
Daily I'm constrained to be
Let Thy goodness like a fetter
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it
Prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart O take and seal it
Seal it for Thy courts above

Verse 4
Oh that day when freed from sinning
I shall see Thy lovely face
Full arrayed in blood-washed linen
How I'll sing Thy sovereign grace
Come my Lord no longer tarry
Bring Thy promises to pass
For I know Thy pow'r will keep me
Till I'm home with Thee at last

Milestones: Memories
1 Samuel 4:1-11,7:2-12
August 13, 2023

1 Samuel 4:1-2
Now the Israelites went out to fight against the Philistines. The Israelites camped at Ebenezer, and the Philistines at Aphek. The Philistines deployed their forces to meet Israel, and as the battle spread, Israel was defeated by the Philistines, who killed about four thousand of them on the battlefield.

1 Samuel 4:10-11
Israel lost thirty thousand foot soldiers. The ark of God was captured, and Eli’s two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, died.

Past defeats that have detained you are the present evidence that God sustained you.

1 Samuel 7:2-6
Then all the people of Israel turned back to the Lord. So Samuel said to all the Israelites, “If you are returning to the Lord with all your hearts, then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths and commit yourselves to the Lord and serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.” So the Israelites put away their Baals and Ashtoreths, and served the Lord only.
Then Samuel said, “Assemble all Israel at Mizpah, and I will intercede with the Lord for you.” When they had assembled at Mizpah, they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. On that day they fasted and there they confessed, “We have sinned against the Lord.”

1 Samuel 7:12
Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

Ebenezer battles can become Ebenezer stones.

Ebenezer battles can become Ebenezer stones.

What memories of defeat need to be redefined as the milestones of God’s deliverance?

Come thou Fount of every blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.
Streams of mercy never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise.

Here I raise my Ebenezer;
Hither by Thy help I’ve come;
And I hope, by thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

Ebenezer battles can become Ebenezer stones.

What memories of defeat need to be redefined as the milestones of God’s deliverance?

Scars and struggles on the way
But with joy our hearts can say
Yes our hearts can say

Never once did we ever walk alone
Never once did You leave us on our own
You are faithful God You are faithful

But with joy our hearts can say
Never once did we ever walk alone
