NOTES | How Can We Know the Bible is True?
2 Peter 1:16-21
For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased”— and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.
1. The Bible is a collection of verified eyewitness accounts.

2 Peter 1:16
For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty.
Luke 1:1-4
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile an account of the things accomplished among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and servants of the word, it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus; so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught.
Acts 1:1-3
The first account I composed, Theophilus, about all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when He was taken up to heaven, after He had by the Holy Spirit given orders to the apostles whom He had chosen. To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God.
1 John 1:1-2
What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life- and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us.
1 Cor. 15:3-6
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep…
2. The Bible records the miraculous, indisputable transformation of people.

2 Peter 1:17,18
For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, ‘This is My beloved Son with whom I am well pleased” – and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
Jesus was transfigured.

Matthew 17:2
And He was transfigured before them; and His face shone like the sun, and His garments became as white as light.
People were transformed.
3. The Bible records prophecies given and fulfilled supernaturally over hundreds of years.

2 Peter 1:19
So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts.
“I have come to the conviction that no man knows enough to attack the veracity of the Old Testament. Every time when anyone has been able to get together enough documentary ‘proofs’ to undertake an investigation, the biblical facts in the original text have victoriously met the test.”
- Prof. Robert Dick Wilson of Princeton University
4. The Bible leads us to logically conclude that it is divine in origin.

…for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. v.21
2 Tim. 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness…
I believe the Bible because it is comprised of
1) verified eyewitness accounts,
2) miraculous events of supernatural transformation,
3) prophecies given about and fulfilled by Jesus Christ,
4) and additional evidence allowing a logical conclusion of divine origin.
If this is so, we must embrace the Bible’s SUPERIORITY and the Bible’s AUTHOR.
