Ice Breaker: Have you ever faced something so GIANT in your life that you didn't know what to do or even where to start? How did you feel in this moment and what was the outcome?
We all face giants from time to time and that is exactly what we are talking about this week as we go through the story of David and Goliath.
Read 1 Samuel 17:4-8. How do you think the Israelites felt looking at Goliath?
Being a shepherd probably seemed like a mundane task to David and those who knew him. It certainly wasn't a glamorous job. However, during this time, God was doing something in David's life that no one else could see. He was preparing David for a very BIG moment. Read 1 Samuel 17: 32-37. How did David's role as a shepherd help prepare him for this moment against Goliath? Why do you think David was so confident to take on this giant?
Remember, this story is not just about something that happened in the past. It directly applies to our lives all these years later. Read 1 Samuel 17:49. Just as God was preparing David one day at a time through his life as a shepherd, He is preparing you too! Think back over some of the hard, "Goliath-like" times in your life. What was God doing to help prepare you for these moments?
Just like David, with each passing day, God is preparing each of us to fight our own battles. Take some time and pray to Him. Ask for his guidance in the Goliath-like moments that are happening in your life right now and those that are yet to come.
