Hebrews 10:21-23 NIV and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

What Happens When We Draw Near to God 4.30.23

Hebrews 10:21-23 NIV and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 7:18-19 NIV The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless.
19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God

Zephaniah 3:2 NIV She obeys no one, she accepts no correction. She does not trust in the Lord, she does not draw near to her God.

Getting started

1. We draw near in full assurance that is by faith.

2. We draw near because Christ has fulfilled the Law completely, opening a door for us which had been somewhat closed before.

3. Rebellion is always marked by disobedience, an unteachable spirit, a trust in false gods, and a refusal to draw near to God.

Five People who learned the value of drawing near

1. Moses - from Moses we learn that drawing near involves a willingness to go into a “new place” - a place called “Holy Ground.” (Exodus 3)

2. Joshua - from Joshua we learn that drawing near involves a season of obscurity that blossoms later. (Exodus 33:11)

3. Samuel - from Samuel we learn that drawing near involves being available even when we know we are “over our heads.” (1 Samuel 3:7)

4. Anna - from Anna we learn that drawing near often begins in a place of deep hurt or desperation. (Luke 2:36-38)

5. Mary, the sister of Martha and Lazarus: from Mary we learn the priority of drawing near, even in the face of clamoring voices and demands. (Luke 10:38-42)
