Sermon: Leveling the Playing Field
Passage: Romans 3:9-20

Introduction

- Defining the phrase, “leveling the playing field”

- The problem we face

- The author’s background

- The goal of Romans

1. Does our religious upbringing merit an advantage with God? (v. 9)

- "What shall we conclude then?”

- The Jew and the Gentile debate

- The answer is, no, we all have been separated by sin.

- Daily remembering our need and God’s grace.

2. Mankind is destined to fall without God’s rescue. (vv. 10-18)

- Examples from the Psalms

- The Old Testament authors wrote about this topic:

Abraham’s beginnings

3. The value of the Law (vv. 19-20)

- Where is the law applicable?

- “Therefore”:

The law does not create right living.

The law was put in place to give us a conscience understanding of sin.

Application

1. Take some time to reflect upon your daily need for grace and salvation from yourself.

2. Pursue God as one who can approach him face to face, because the field is level at the cross.

KIDS CAMP - July 17-21

Registration for the 2023 Kids Camp opens on April 1 for both participants and volunteers.

Scholarships are available.

Ministry Notes (see website and weekly email for more details)

Women's Ministry: The women's Bible study meets every other Saturday morning at the church. The women's TableTop fellowship group meets in the evening on the second and fourth Mondays of the month.

Men's Ministry: There is a Men's Bible Study every Saturday morning at the church. There is also an evening men's gathering on the second Thursday of every month.

Young Adults: The Young Adults group meets on Sunday mornings at 8:45.

Youth Group: Youth Group will begin meeting again on Sunday mornings in March. We will be providing additional gathering times in the coming months hosted by various members of the Hillside Leadership Team. Keep your ears open for ways to connect!

Prayer Ministry: Prayer Night third Monday of the month (7:00pm).

Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS): Meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at First Baptist Church in Golden. For more information, email mopsgolden@gmail.com

You can receive prayer from 9:30-10:00am Sunday mornings in the cry room adjacent to the church foyer or on the third Monday of every month from 7:00-8:00pm in the coffee shop.

If you would like to simply join us in prayer, our monthly prayer night is on the third Monday of each month. We meet in the coffee shop at the church from 7:00-8:00pm. The next meeting will be on Monday, February 20. We’d love to have you come pray with us!
