First we’ll talk about SAINTS
Saints are not BORN saints; they become saints by being REBORN.
The word translated saint in the New Testament, hagios, literally means “Physically PURE; Morally BLAMELESS; Holy.”
In other words, saint is another word for a CHRISTIAN, a true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Second we’ll talk about DEACONS
Deacons are model servants appointed to a local church office. They are DEPLOYED to assist the pastors or elders by protecting Church UNITY, organizing practical SERVICE and meeting TANGIBLE needs.
In a general sense, every Christian is called to be a Deacon (the New Testament word diakonos simply means servant). But the designation is not always generic; it is also a formal Church office. Deacons who are rightly defined and deployed—are an irreplaceable gift to Christ’s people.
Six Deacon Requirements
1. Well RESPECTED and have INTEGRITY
2. No DRUNKENESS
3. Not DISHONEST with Money or GREEDY
4. Committed to the Mystery of the FAITH with a Clear CONSCIENCE
5. Closely EXAMINED
6. Faithful FAMILY Life
What Deacons Must Do
1. Spotting and Meeting TANGIBLE Needs
2. Protecting and Promoting Church UNITY
3. Serving the Ministry of the Pastors and ELDERS

Talk About It

Discussion Questions:
1. Before you heard this teaching, what would have your definition of a “Saint” been if someone asked you? Is your definition different now? If so, what is it now?
2. Go through the list of Biblical requirements of a deacon from 1 Timothy 3. Of the six mentioned, which one do you struggle to understand? Which one needs the most work in your own life? What is your plan to work on it?
3. When the Bible says in verse 10 that they should be closely examined and pass the test, what does that mean? Why is this important?

Next Step:
If we should all aspire to being a learner in the body of Christ and growing as a saint of God to be more like Jesus, what two to three things immediately come to mind that you need to truly work on with the Lord’s help and incorporate some accountability moving forward?
