Jesus carried every person born and to be born to the Garden with Him to pray.

Focus Text:

Then they came to a place which was named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”

He went a little farther, and fell on the ground, and prayed that if it were possible, the hour might pass from Him. And He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible for You. Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

Then He came and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “Simon, are you sleeping? Could you not watch one hour? Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again He went away and prayed, and spoke the same words. And when He returned, He found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy; and they did not know what to answer Him.

Then He came the third time and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? It is enough! The hour has come; behold, the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us be going. See, My betrayer is at hand.” Mark 14:32-42 NKJV

ANNOUNCEMENTS

New Lead Pastor—Pastor Edwin Vargas
The Lord has answered our prayers and Pastor Edwin Vargas, along with his wife Lisanette, has answered the Lord’s call to join Beltsville SDA Church as Lead Pastor.

Pastor Edwin has been described by his colleagues as an intelligent, creative, and collaborative leader. Having served as a lead pastor and church planter in the Denver, Colorado and Portland, Oregon areas, he brings experience leading multi-site churches. He has expressed a passion for developing best practices for church planting and loves to develop leaders and help the next generation invest themselves in God’s kingdom through the church.

Holding an MDiv. from Andrews University and currently a missiology doctoral candidate there, Pr. Edwin returns to the National Capital area where he once served for nearly a decade and a half at the North American Division. He comes to us from his native Puerto Rico, where he informed his congregation last Sabbath that he has accepted the call the Beltsville.

Let’s pray for Pastor and Sister Vargas as they follow the Lord’s lead and prepare to travel north to Maryland. Especially beseech the Lord to guide and strengthen them and their three sons in this period of transition. If it is God’s will, we can expect the Vargas family to join us by early June.

HEALTH MINISTRIES
Keep an Eye on Your Vision Health — 1
Going to the doctor, going to the dentist—all part of taking care of your health. But going to the eye doctor? Also important! Eye exams at every age and life stage can help keep your vision strong.

Many people think their eyesight is just fine, but then they get that first pair of glasses or contact lenses and the world comes into clearer view—everything from fine print to street signs. Improving your eyesight is important—about 11 million Americans over age 12 need vision correction—but it’s just one of the reasons to get your eyes examined. Regular eye exams are also an important part of finding eye diseases early and preserving your vision.

Though people tend to have more vision problems as they get older, children need eye exams to ensure healthy vision too. But only 39% of preschool children have had their vision tested, which is needed to diagnose eye diseases.

Amblyopia (reduced vision because the eye and brain aren’t working together properly) is the most common cause of vision loss in children—2 to 3 out of 100 children. Amblyopia needs to be treated promptly to help avoid vision loss. (cdc.gov)
