Be Still and Know that I am God - Leigh Kendon
Psalm 46 is about how God is the One who protects and helps us as we trust and rely on Him and His power during times of calamity, chaos, storms and trials. He is the One that gives us peace and takes away our fear and anxiety as we look to Him and trust in Him, as we still ourselves before Him and know Him as our God, as we exalt Him for what He has done.

1. Psalm 46

Looking back how God was with the Israelites and how He helped them.

Exodus 14:13-14 (NIV)
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.”

2 Chronicles 20:12 (NIV)
O our God, will you not execute judgement on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We don’t know what to do but our eyes are on you.
2. Be Still

God wants us to enjoy being with Him. He wants us to prioritise spending time in His Presence, getting to know Him. To ‘be still’ is taking the time to pause and reflect.
3. Know

Know means ‘to be aware of’, ‘to acknowledge’, ‘to recognise’, ‘to understand’ ‘to properly ascertain by seeing’.

Jeremiah 29:13 (NIV)
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you…

God wants us to know Him. We can know God through His Word and by spending time with Him.
4. I am God

Exodus 34:6-7 (NIV)
The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.

The attributes and characteristics of God found in Psalm 46.
5. I (God) will be exalted

God is exalted through the works He does and our purpose is to exalt and glorify Him.

John Piper says “God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him.”
6. Conclusion

Craig Groeschel says “Peace isn’t found in the absence of a storm. Peace is found in the presence of God.”

It’s often in the storms of life that we come to know and experience this peace because He is the only One we can truly rely on. He is the only One that fully understands and knows what we are going through. He is the only One that can be our refuge, strength and help.

Be still and remember who God is.
Be still and acknowledge His power and might.
Be still and know that God is with us.
Remember:
Be still and know that I am God.
