Holy Spirit
God's Presence Within Us
The Holy Spirit Convicts Us
And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
John 16:8-11
Why is this important?
1. We will never seek God our own.
Romans 3:10-12
2. Without the work of the Holy Spirit we would not understand our need for a Savior.
The Holy Spirit Regenerates and Washes Us
But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,.
Titus 3:4-6
Why is this important?
1. Because we were dead and unable to help ourselves.
Ephesians 2:1-2
2. It reminds us that our salvation is through Grace alone.
The Holy Spirit Indwells Us
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
John 14:16-17
Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,
1 Corinthians 6:19
Why is this important?
1. His Indwelling Empowers Us
2. His Indwelling Guides us
3. It means all believers are indwelt by the same spirit.
The Holy Spirit Baptizes Us
For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:12-13
Why is this important?
1. It means we are connected to one another
2. It means we need each other!
The Holy Spirit Seals Us
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 1:13-14
Why is this important?
1. It means we are His
2. It means we are secure
3. It mean we can live in communion with God while we await to be united with Him
How Should We Respond?
1. Be Grateful for All the Holy Spirit has done
2. Protect the Unity He has created
3. Live in the Power of the Indwelling Holy Spirit
4. Look forward in faith
