How Can I Be Sure? (Easter Series)

How Can I Be Sure? (Easter Series)

Is the Bible true? Is it reliable? This morning we will discover how we can be sure the Bible is the Word of God.

Locations & Times

First Baptist Church on the Square Sanctuary

Sunday 8:45 AM

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God's revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.
It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

THE CLAIMS OF THE BIBLE
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
Above all, you know this: No prophecy of Scripture comes from the prophet’s own interpretation because no prophecy ever came by the will of man; instead, men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
2 Peter 1:20-21

For they are not meaningless words to you but they are your life…
Deuteronomy 32:47
It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4
For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or one stroke of a letter will pass away from the law until all things are accomplished.
Matthew 5:18
Also, regard the patience of our Lord as salvation, just as our dear brother Paul has written to you according to the wisdom given to him. He speaks about these things in all his letters. There are some things hard to understand in them. The untaught and unstable will twist them to their own destruction, as they also do with the rest of the Scriptures.
2 Peter 3:15-16
His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.
2 Peter 3:15-16
OUR CONFIDENCE IN THE BIBLE
1.) The Bible has stood the test of time.

2.) The manuscript evidence is overwhelming.
3.) The continuity of the Biblical narrative is affirming.

4.) The fulfillment of prophecy is conclusive.
For the word of God is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12
