We are in week five of our six-week journey through the big ideas of John Mark Comer’s fantastic book, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry. The book itself does a masterful job of drawing out the desires Jesus has for us and how Jesus’ desires for us to have an abundant life are in direct conflict with how we have been trained to live life in our busy, hurried, hectic world.

We must shift America from a needs to a desires culture… People must be trained to desire, to want new things, even before the old have been entirely consumed. We must shape a new mentality. Man’s desires must overshadow his needs.
The new economic gospel of consumption.
A change has come over our democracy; it is called consumptionism. The American citizen’s first importance to his country is now no longer that of a citizen but that of a consumer.
No matter where you live, your emotional well-being is as good as it is going to get at $75,000… and money is not going to make it any better beyond that point. It is like you hit some sort of ceiling, and you cannot get emotional well-being (read happiness) much higher just by having more money.
Our host culture has trained us to consume and collect to be happy.
Excessive accumulation eventually contaminates your heart.
Have a clear and healthy vision for how you will use what you have to serve God and people.
How we view and use money determines who we serve.
Worshipping _______ produces worry. Worshipping _______ provides comfort.
Giving makes us happier than getting.
Limit what you consume and collect so that you can be happy and free.
