Genesis 9:1-7
And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are given. Every moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Surely I will require your lifeblood; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man’s brother I will require the life of man. “Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed, for in the image of God He made man. “As for you, be fruitful and multiply; populate the earth abundantly and multiply in it.”
The Command

Genesis 9:1-2
“Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky…”
“Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed, for in the image of God He made man.” v. 6
God values the life of every human being.
Jeremiah 31:3
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
The Covenant

Genesis 9:16
“When the bow is in the cloud, then I will look upon it, to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
The rainbow is a reminder of a gracious God Who is all-powerful, loving, and forgiving.
Psalm 103:8-12
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness. He will not always strive with us, nor will He keep His anger forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.
Revelation 4:2-3
…a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne…and there was a rainbow around the throne…
The Curse

Genesis 9:20-22
Then Noah began farming and planted a vineyard. He drank of the wine and became drunk, and uncovered himself inside his tent. Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside.
Genesis 8:21
“…for the intent of man’s heart is evil from his youth…”
Romans 3:23
…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God…
The Conflict

Genesis 10:5
From these the coastlands of the nations were separated into their lands, every one according to his language, according to their families, into their nations.
Genesis 11:1-4
Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. It came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. They said to one another, “Come, let us make bricks and burn them thoroughly.” And they used brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar. They said, “Come, let us build for ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over the face of the whole earth.”
Romans 5:8-9
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
