The songs of invitation orients us to God. It turns our attention to see God as the one that forgives sins, who has compassion on the weary and calls all who are humble in heart to come to Him. Singing has always been a biblical expression of praise, adoration and worship. It is not a ‘warm up’ act before the ‘main event’ of a service. Rather, it is a true expression of praise, thanksgiving, and treasuring of God.

In Scripture, as people find themselves in God’s presence, they sense how far short they fall and become aware of their own guilt and shame. In the same way, we make a confession of sin, both as a community and also silently as individuals. In this, we remember that God is always ready, by his mercy and grace, to forgive us.

Confession Of Sin
Holy Lord, we have sinned without number, and have been guilty of pride and unbelief, of failure to find your mind in your word, of neglect to seek you in our daily lives. Our transgressions and sins present us with a list of accusations.

But we thank you you that they will not stand against us, for all have been laid on Christ. Go on to subdue our corruptions, and grant us grace to live above them. Let not the passions of the flesh nor the lusts of the mind bring our spirit into subjection, but do rule over us in liberty and power. Amen.

Congregational Prayer is an opportunity for us as a church to pray with one voice. In prayer, we recognise our finitude and God’s sovereignty, and we confess our needs before our great God and King. God invites us to pray to him – to cast all of our burdens and anxieties upon him because he cares.

Q: How can we be saved?

A: Only by faith in Jesus Christ and in his substitutionary atoning death on the cross; so even though we are guilty of having disobeyed God and are still inclined to all evil, nevertheless, God, without any merit of our own but only by pure grace, imputes to us the perfect righteousness of Christ when we repent and believe in him.
