Six Biblical motivations for personal evangelism.
(Referenced from Recapturing Evangelism by Dr Matt Queen)
1. The Glory of God’s Name is a motivation for personal evangelism.
The most common use of the word “glory” in the Bible is to describe the splendor, holiness and majesty of God.
To glorify the name of the Lord or to glorify God means to acknowledge His
Greatness: Psalm 96:4: For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
Majesty: Exodus 15:11: Who is like You, majestic in holiness,
Splendor: Psalm 96:6: Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Perfection: Deuteronomy 32:4: His deeds are perfect.
Holiness: Isaiah 6:3: Holy, Holy, Holy, is the LORD of hosts, The whole earth is full of His glory.
We also glorify God through our works of service for Him.
John 15:8: Bearing fruit for the kingdom of God also brings glory to Him.
We can experience the same joy through our witnessing because it brings glory to God.
God's glory is the ultimate incentive, the primary motive for personal Evangelism.
2. Obedience is a motivation for personal evangelism.
The biblical concept of obedience means both “listen to” and “act upon, obey.”
The concept is found in OT Shema, Israel’s confession of faith:
Deuteronomy 6:4-9: …These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts…
In the New Testament, Christ embodied this quality of perfect obedience to God.
It’s important to remember that we are only responsible to God for our obedience in personal evangelism, not the results of that obedience.
So, Obedience not results is our motivation.
Personal evangelism is the responsibility of every believer.
We share the gospel out of obedience to the command of Christ.
Doing something rather than nothing is a motivation to obedience. The results are God’s department
3. Love is a motivation for personal evangelism.
Love is the very nature of God.
Biblical love is not a feeling or an emotion. It is a decision to act and the action can always be seen.
The supreme evidence of God’s love for mankind is sending His only begotten Son into the World.
God’s love desires a response.
The world is looking for evidence that there is a God of love.
Matthew 5:44: Love your enemies.
Love is a necessity for evangelism, so we are to treat people far from God with honor and respect.
There are 3 dimensions of love that should motivate us to share the gospel.
1. Like Paul, we should be motivated to witness because of the love Jesus demonstrated by dying for all.
Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
2. As an expression of our own love for God, we should tell others about Him.
Acts 8:1,4: On that day a great persecution broke out against the church at Jerusalem, and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria…those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went.
3. Because we love Jesus, we should share that affection with whomever He loves.
Romans 1:16: I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.
Pray to Holy Spirit that He give you a burden to love others and share the gospel.
4. Faith is a motivation for personal evangelism.
Mark 2:1-12: When four friends carried a paralyzed man to Jesus for healing but couldn’t reach Him due to the crowds. So, they climbed up to the roof ripped a hole in the roof and lowered him down.
Because of his faith the Lord forgave his sins and healed him as well
The bible clearly teaches they no one can be saved apart from personally exercising saving faith in Jesus Christ.
It’s the believer’s faith in Jesus Christ’s power to save that should motivate us to introduce Him to those who need His salvation that they may believe in Him by faith.
5. Prayer is a motivation for personal evangelism.
Prayer is used by God to arouse believers to share the good news.
Paul asked several churches to pray for his evangelistic efforts.
Pray that God will stir in us a deep love for Him and for others that He has placed around us.
6. Intentionality is a motivation for personal evangelism.
Every believer who should be intentionally looking for opportunities to share gospel.
Dr Queen makes two important points:

1. Evangelism does not happen incidentally.
2. Evangelism will never occur by accident.
Evangelism occurs intentionally.
Intentionality is key in practicing consistent evangelism.
Here are four evangelism guidelines to prompt and encourage intentional personal evangelism.
1. The Holy Spirit guideline:
In whatever circumstances I find myself, when the Holy Spirit prompts me to engage a specific individual in a gospel conversation, I want to do so obediently.
2. The Five-Minute Guideline:
If the Lord gives me a captive audience with an individual for 5 minutes or more I will try to engage that person in a gospel conversation.
3. The Homestead Guideline:
When the Lord brings a person whom I have not previously met onto my property or into my home, I will try to engage that person in a gospel conversation.
4. The Detour Guideline:
When the Lord interrupts my daily routine so as to direct me to a place that puts me in contact with someone I would not otherwise have met, I will try to engage that person in a gospel conversation.
The Lord will not leave the work of evangelism to mere coincidence nor to convenience.

Worship Through Giving

Scripture tells us that the things we spend our money on reveal what is in our heart (Matthew 6:21). We believe that cheerful and sacrificial giving of our finances to the work of the local church is one of the deepest expressions of worship that we can offer and shows that we truly want to love as Jesus loved.
