Today there are 600 million Pentecostal believers worldwide.
1. IS TONGUES BIBLICAL?
THERE IS NO DENOMINATION that I’m aware of that denies that believers in Acts spoke in Tongues.
“Xenolalia” which is the ability to speak in a KNOWN LANGUAGE that you did not learn.
“Glossolalia” which is the ability to speak in an UNKNOWN OR HEAVENLY LANGUAGE you did not learn.
Speaking in tongues is not the indulgence of some hyped-up emotional state, and it’s not something that disengages your mind in some trance like state.
Speaking in tongues didn’t go away it just went underground.
2. WHAT IS TONGUES?
We called the Baptism in the Spirit a Second Definite Work of Grace because like Salvation it is freely given to all who ask for it by Jesus!
Tongues (Glossolalia) is a heavenly language that we did not learn and do not understand but the Spirit of God understands.
The first is the gift OF the Holy Spirit
The other gift spoken of in the New Testament is “FROM the Holy Spirit.”
God gives us the Gift (dorea) of the Spirit to live inside us as the mark of His ownership of our lives as salvation
And then the Spirit gives us Gifts (charismata) to make us stronger and more effective in our life and ministry.

You and I control the degree to which our lives come under the influence of the Spirit.
3. WHY TONGUES?
Because Speaking in Tongues OFFENDS our Pride
Pride keeps us from obeying the Holy Spirit.
4. EIGHT IMPORTANT TRUTHS TO KNOW ABOUT SPEAKING IN TONGUES
1. Though I speak with tongues I am an intelligent and sensible person
2. Though I speak with tongues I’m a fallible person that still struggles with a sin nature
3. Though I speak with tongues I’m a dependable person
4. Though I speak in tongues I’m a Biblical and Christ centered person.
5. Speaking in Tongues is not an "Out of Control" experience.
There are times and places it's INNAPPROPIATE to speak in tongues.
6. It’s not a status symbol
7. Tongues is not a Substitute for Spiritual Growth.
8. Everyone Who Wants this Gift Can Receive it!
