Bible Study and Group Discussion

Read Joshua 7

1. Achan was the one who violated the Lord’s instructions. Why do you think God was angry with all the Israelites (vs. 1)?
2. After defeat, the Israelites were paralyzed with fear and their courage melted away. Have you ever felt this way after disobeying God? What do you do when you are overcome with guilt and shame? Explain.
3. Why do you think God was so insistent that everything was destroyed?
4. How did Joshua and the leaders respond to what happened?
5. What can you do to make sure you don’t forget God’s commands and standard for living?
6. What are the dangers of deciding for ourselves what’s right?
7. When have you sensed the Lord’s kindness even in your sin? How did His kindness affect you?
8. If Jesus forgives our sin, why do we need to follow His commands?
9. Describe a time you suffered negative consequences as a result of not following God’s commands or instructions.
10. If we serve a loving God, how would you explain vs. 15, 24-26 to someone who questions God’s character?
11. What do you learn about God from this passage?
12. How do you sense God wants you to respond to this week’s teaching?
Spiritual Practice
A spiritual practice is something we can do to help us live in and enjoy God’s grace. We hope these will become a regular part of your life, so that walking and talking with God is the most natural thing you do.

All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23 NIV). Thankfully, God’s love is so great that He sent Jesus to restore our relationship with Him. God is full of grace and mercy and invites us to come home. Scripture says, If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9 NIV). Find some quiet space this week and read Psalm 51 and Isaiah 49:8-10. Tell God about specific ways you’ve disobeyed His commands, and thank Him for Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29 NLT).
Memory Verse
People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. Proverbs 28:13 (NLT)
