Sermon Notes / February 4-5, 2023
Come and See
1. Jesus is pre-existent: He always has been.
(John 1:1-3, John 8:56-58)
2. Jesus is co-existent: with God and is God.
3. Jesus is self-existent: in Him is life.
(John 5:26)
Point #1: Jesus came to show us who God is.
Point #2: Jesus came to reveal the truth about what matters.
Point #3: Jesus came to show us where we can find hope.
Other Scripture references:
-Hebrews 1:1
-Colossians 1:16
-John 17:4-5
-Matthew 5:14-16
Discussion Questions:
1. After listening to this teaching, do you have a better understanding or interpretation of John 1:14, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”?
2. Jesus is Logos or the Word. He is God and He became flesh and dwelt among us. Do you realize that God is never changing or growing, because He is unchangeable? What does this mean for you?
3. Have you ever pictured yourself being alive back when Jesus walked the earth? Have you thought to yourself how you would have responded? Would you have recognized Him as God? Do you recognize Him as God now?
4. John 1:12-13, “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.” What does it mean to you to be given the right to become a child of God?
5. What does it mean for you that Jesus, the Light of the world, came into darkness for you? To rescue you? To give you eternal life?
6. We, who are called children of God, are to be a light in the darkness, how are you shining His light?
