THE UNFORCED RHYTHMS OF GRACE

Text: Mt 11:28–30, ESV

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
(Mt 11:28–30, ESV)

Mt 11:28–30, The Message

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

How do you define success?

How do we break free from the burden of busy and find ourselves in the unforced rhythms of grace where immeasurably more abounds?

Book Recommendation:
The Ruthless Elimination Of Hurry, John Mark Comer

THREE RADICAL THOUGHTS TO BREAK UP WITH BUSY

#1 JESUS DIDN’T CALL YOU TO BE BURDENED BY BUSY
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (vs 28).

3 Sacrifices Of Busy

* Our Physically Health
* Our Important Relationships

Tragic is the life that spends more time with people you don’t really know doing something you don’t really like so that you can give the people you really love something they don’t really need

* Our Spiritual Life
Satan will keep you busy if it means that in exchange you are never productive

Signs Of A Busy Burdened Life
* Short temper
* Chronic fatigue
* Physical alignments
* Depression or fear about the present or future
* Lack of Gratitude
* Can’t sit still

If you find yourself here, hear the words of Jesus!

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.”

#2 JESUS NEVER RAN, HE WALKED

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (vs 29.)

A “yoke”
* A common cultural idiom
* A religious requirement

I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.

Jesus showed us how to
* Walk Alone (Mark 1:35–36)
* Walk with those closest to him (Luke 24:28–32)
* Walk with those in front of him (Matt. 9:23–26; Luke 8:49–56)

# 3 FOUR RHYTHMS YOU NEED FOR IMMEASURABLY MORE
“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (vs 30).

Come to me… was an invitation not an obligation

* Silence and Solitude
* Sacred Sabbath
* Spending Less & Sharing more
* Standing Still
