The Wooden Ladder
Between Two Trees
The problem of Eden is much worse than you thought, but the solution is much better than you could have ever imagined.
Between Two Trees reveals that the real tragedy of Eden is a union with death, a union that produces division and despair. Life isn’t lived under Eden’s tree of life or beneath the healing leaves of the tree in the New Jerusalem. It is lived between them. And between these two trees, life is hard. In spite of this tragedy, Between Two Trees will challenge you to embrace hope, love, and the beauty of reconciliation at the true tree of life: the cross of Calvary.
By exploring the problem of Eden and the power of the cross, Shane Wood calls us to walk on a path to transformation, a path to union with God. The book’s journey ends under the shade of the tree of life in the New Jerusalem with God’s unfinished creation now complete. Yes, Eden, but more importantly, you. The unfinished creation in us.

Jacob: Heal grasper
Jacob: Deceiver, supplanter, usurper
Jacob: Deceiver, supplanter, usurper
In Genesis 27, Jacob steals Esau’s blessing.
Luz: Almond tree
This dream would be comforting. Through the stress, God is showing that He is with Jacob. Through our dark days, God promises that He is with us. Why use the man that just betrayed his brother? Because Jacob wanted to be used by God. He was willing, usually on his own terms, and while Jacob always gets a bad wrap, he almost always reconciles with those he hurt. It happens with Esau, it happens with Laban, and we see it happen with his sons later in Genesis.
Bethel: Holy Place, God’s House

The Messiah they hoped for, Jesus, claiming that He’s the Son of Man confirms to the disciples He is who He says He is. The One promised and sent by God to be the ladder between heaven and earth.

If we give our lives to Messiah Jesus and follow Him, we have direct access to God because the Holy Spirit dwells within us.
There are no coincidences in Scripture. God had a plan when he authored the Bible, and from beginning to end, he used trees to mark the trail.
