How much do you really know about the Holy Spirit? What is He like? What does He do? How do I relate to Him and how does he relate to me? Interim Pastor Marty Carnes is going to share with us this morning what the Bible teaches about “The Counselor.”
John 14:16
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.
HE IS GOD
Personal characteristics are ascribed to the Spirit.
He has intellect (1 Cor. 2:11)
He has emotion (Rom. 8:27, 15:30)
He has a will (1 Cor. 12:11)
He performs personal acts.
He regenerates (John 3:5)
He teaches (John 14:26)
He bears witness (John 15:26)
He guides in truth (John 16:13)
He glorifies Christ (John 16:14)
He intercedes (Romans 8:26)
He is susceptible to personal treatment.
He can be tested (Acts 5:9)
He can be lied to (Acts 5:3)
He can be grieved (Ephesians 4:30)
He can be resisted (Acts 7:51)
He can be insulted (Hebrews 10:29)
He can be blasphemed (Matthew 12:31)
Genesis 1:2
Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.
