Understanding the back story of Christmas makes the Christmas story believable
The Christmas story begins with God making a promise found in the Book of Genesis
God made an extraordinary promise to Abram (Abraham)
Genesis 12:1
The Lord said to Abram, "Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land that I will show you." NIV
Genesis 12:2
"I will make you into a great nation." NIV
Genesis 12:2
“And I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing." NIV
Genesis 12:3
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; NIV
Genesis 12:3
“and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” NIV
Abraham chose to believe the unbelievable
King David (Warrior King): Created peace with surrounding nations
King Solomon (Builder King): Expanded Israel’s impact and reach
Through King Solomon, Israel positioned itself to bless the world
Isaiah 49:6
I will also make you a light for the Gentiles. NIV
Isaiah 49:6
I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth. NIV
Malachi 1:11
“My name will be great among the nations.” NIV
