◾️ Long before “Alexa,” “Siri,” “Hey Google” - or for Trekkies, “Computer,” there was a Listener who heard our cries and worries and fears and inquiries and hopes and dreams and all that our hearts speak. The Listener is The Lord God Almighty. It isn’t so amazing that we call to God. What’s amazing is that He calls to us. He speaks to you. The question is, “Are you listening to Him?” In this series we’ll see what the Bible says about how to listen for God’s voice. Together we’ll discover “how to hear God talk,” “how God talks to us” and “how to recognize that it's God talking.”

HOW GOD TALKS WITH ME
How Does God Talk With Us?
1. GOD’S VOICE IS HEARD THROUGH THE BIBLE.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip His people to do every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
2. GOD’S VOICE IS HEARD THROUGH HIS SON, JESUS CHRIST.
1 Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. 2 And now in these final days, He has spoken to us through His Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son He created the universe. Hebrews 1:1-2 (NLT)
JESUS: 15 “All things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15 (NLT)
3. GOD’S VOICE IS HEARD THROUGH NATURE AND GOD’S CREATION.
20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see His invisible qualities—His eternal power and divine nature. So, they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:20 (NLT)
25 Ants—they aren’t strong, but they store up food all summer. Proverbs 30:25 (NLT)
6 Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones. Learn from their ways and become wise! Proverbs 6:6 (NLT)
14 Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. 4. GOD’S VOICE IS HEARD THROUGH INSPIRED IMPRESSIONS.
JESUS: 26 “...the Holy Spirit…will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.” John 14:26b (NLT)
Elihu to Job: 14 For God speaks again and again, though people do not recognize it. 15 He speaks in dreams, in visions of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they lie in their beds. 16 He whispers in their ears… Job 33:14-16a (NLT).
Warning: Always TEST impressions! Don’t assume an “impression” is inspired by God. It may be a thinly veiled temptation from Satan. You must test it.
5. GOD’S VOICE IS HEARD THROUGH OTHER BELIEVERS.
13 Therefore, we never stop thanking God that when you received His message from us, you didn’t think of our words as mere human ideas. You accepted what we said as the very Word of God - which, of course, it is. And this Word continues to work in you who believe. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NLT)
13 When we tell you these things, we do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. 1 Corinthians 2:13 (NLT)
17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. James 3:17 (NLT)
6. GOD’S VOICE IS HEARD THROUGH MY PAIN.
30 Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways. Proverbs 20:30 (GNT)
67 I used to wander off until you disciplined me; but now I closely follow all You say… 71 My suffering was good for me, for it taught me to pay attention to Your decrees. 72 Your instructions are more valuable to me than millions in gold and silver. Psalm 119:67, 71-72 (NLT)
7 The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust Him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. Psalm 28:7 (NLT)
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HEAR GOD'S VOICE?
1. IT REASSURES ME THAT I AM IN GOD'S FAMILY.
JESUS: 27 “My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.” John 10:27 (NLT)
2. IT SHIELDS ME FROM FALLING INTO TRAPS.
16 …It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 2 Timothy 3:16b (NLT)
7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 (NLT)
3. IT IS THE KEY TO A PRODUCTIVE LIFE.
JESUS: 5 “...Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit…” John 15:5b (NLT)
22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
