Knowing Jesus Changes Everything
November 19/20, 2022
Daniel Im
Two Characteristics of Enemies of the Cross of Christ:

1. Their End is Destruction
· Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame; and they are focused on earthly things. (Philippians 3:19 CSB)

2. They are focused on earthly things
· Their end is destruction; their god is their stomach; their glory is in their shame; and they are focused on earthly things. (Philippians 3:19 CSB)
Knowing Jesus = Friendship with Jesus
· I do not call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have heard from my Father. (John 15:15 CSB)
How to Cultivate a Deeper Friendship with Jesus:
1. Prayer and Scripture
· Prayer is how we talk to Jesus
· Reading the Scriptures is how Jesus talks to us
· And praying the scriptures is how we learn how to talk like Jesus
2. Playing and Sabbath
· “Sabbath means quit. Stop. Take a break. Cool it. The word itself has nothing devout or holy in it. It is a word about time, denoting our nonuse of it, what we usually call wasting time.” - Eugene Peterson
· Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy: You are to labor six days and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. You must not do any work—you, your son or daughter, your male or female servant, your livestock, or the resident alien who is within your city gates. For the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything in them in six days; then he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and declared it holy. (Exodus 20:8-11 CSB)
· Remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out of there with a strong hand and an outstretched arm. That is why the Lord your God has commanded you to keep the Sabbath day. (Deuteronomy 5:15 CSB)
· “Sabbath is a twenty-four-hour block of time in which we stop work, enjoy rest, practice delight, and contemplate God.” - Pete Scazzero
