Part 1: The Nine Ungrateful Lepers
Series: "A Journey Towards Gratefulness" As Thanksgiving quickly approaches in three weeks, we will start today our series entitled “A Journey Towards Gratefulness.” In this series, we will look at three stories in the Bible that will teach us the beauty of thanksgiving. We will begin the series today by looking at the story of the ten lepers. We already know that only one came back to give thanks to Jesus after ten of them were healed. Join us at 2:30 PM today as we examine this narrative and the lessons we can learn from it that will help us in our journey toward gratefulness. Part 1: The Nine Ungrateful Lepers
I. They never believe that healing came from Jesus
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.”
James 1:17 “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
He is our Jehovah Jireh - “The Lord will provide”
He is our Jehovah Rapha - “The God who heals”
He is our Jehovah Nissi - “The Lord is my banner”
He is our Jehovah Shalom - “The Lord is peace”
He is omnipresent - present everywhere at all times;
He is omniscient - all knowing;
He is omnipotent - all-powerful
God is beyond time, space and matter.
Exodus 15:11-12, “Who among the gods is like You, O LORD? Who is like You— majestic in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders? 12 You stretched out Your right hand, and the earth swallowed them up.”
II. Entitlement and Pride took over their heart
2 Timothy 3:2 “For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy,
Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death. . .
We don’t deserve blessings and favor, we deserve death both first and second death which is worse than the first.
Romans 3:23-24 “23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. 24 Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Proverbs 16:18, “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 19It is better to be lowly in spirit among the humble than to divide the spoil with the proud.
The message translation - Proverbs 16:18-19, First pride, then the crash— the bigger the ego, the harder the fall. t’s better to live humbly among the poor than to live it up among the rich and famous.
III. Jesus was never their priority
Romans 1:21 “For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
We should never let the business of our lives steal the gratefulness to our Lord in our hearts.
Jesus should be number one in our life whether we are in the valley or in our mountain experiences. In fact, we should have Jesus number one in our life in every circumstance we face and every season of our lives.
Matthew 6:33-34, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
Luke 17:19 - (Christian Standard Bible) “And he told him, “Get up and go on your way. Your faith has saved you.”
Nine were healed, but only one was saved. Only one was made whole. The Samaritan man did not just find the healer of his body, but he found the healer of his soul.
