BIG IDEA: Impatience is an invitation into God’s presence

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. James 5:7

Patience: long suffering, enduring, waiting on the Lord

See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. James 5:7

You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near. James 5:8

THE CHALLENGE WE FACE
Our impatience with people and problems leads us either toward or away from God.

BIG IDEA: Impatience is an invitation into God’s presence

Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door! James 5:9

Where does impatience take you?
Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. James 5:10-11

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1: 2-5

Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned. James 5:12

BIG IDEA: Impatience is an invitation into God’s presence

The Welcoming Prayer --Father Thomas Keating
Welcome, welcome, welcome. I welcome everything that comes to me today, because I know it's for my growth and healing. I welcome all thoughts, feelings, emotions, persons, situations, and conditions. I let go of my desire for power and control. I let go of my desire for affection, esteem, approval, and pleasure. I let go of my desire for survival and security. I let go of my desire to change any situation, condition, person or myself. I open to the love and presence of God and God's action within. Amen.

PRAY: CONFESS & ASK
God, I confess my impatience and I give __________ to you. May I experience your compassion and mercy. Grant me perseverance and wisdom.
PCC Benediction
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
