Last week, we began our Series The Power of Words by discussing how the tongue has the power of life and death. This week, we are going to focus on the words that others have spoken to us, over us, and about us.
It is very easy to recall the negative words that have been spoken over you. You think about them, and the feelings come rushing back. Pastor Jonathan asked us to take a few moments and write down some of these words on a white card. How did this exercise make you feel?
Here is the good news; our worth and value, are assigned by God and not other people. The following scriptures are what God says about us. Read them together and discuss them with your group.
Did any of the above scriptures resonate with you? Maybe you even felt liberated by some of them. If so, which ones and why do you think that might be?
We choose what to hold on to. Pastor Jonathan asked everyone to write on the yellow card what God would say to you, what God would speak into and over your life. These are the words God uses to describe us and they are our truths. If you were not in service, take some time and jot down some of these words. We want you to keep them in a place where you can go back and look at them from time to time. Let them serve as a reminder of who you really are and the way God sees you.
Pray together as a group. Ask God to help us remember these truths; that we are His creation and that we are who He says we are and not what others have said.
