What would your label be?

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life. Matthew 6:27

Big Idea: Trust God’s will for our life and God’s will for our wealth.

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:13-17

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you. James 5:1-6

Last week - Bryan Murphy stated, "Submission takes intentionality. Will I choose God more than I choose myself?"

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. James 4:13-14

Andy Crouch says: “busy, restless, “Sabbath-less” people are idolaters they have displaced the creator God who both worked and rested with a God who is no true God, a God of restless productivity who could never stop, to enjoy, celebrate, or remember.”

"Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil." James 4:15-16

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:17

Trust God’s will for our life and God’s will for our wealth.

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. James 5:1-3

James 5:4-6

James doesn’t just point out our problem, he gives us a way out of the trap of worry and wealth. HE GIVES US FREEDOM

Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that. James 4:15

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them. James 4:17

--There is nothing wrong with planning and accomplishing, but are we doing it of our own strength, or is it God’s will?
--Are we so focused on our doing and accomplishing that we forget to seek God’s perspective on all of it?
--Do we neglect the things God is asking us specifically to do..are we resisting the Holy Spirit’s nudgings?

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Luke 12:22-25

Trust God’s will for our life and God’s will for our wealth.

PCC Benediction
May you jump into the arms of Jesus.
And may He push you out into the world.
May you be healed as you participate in the healing of others.
Not because you must, but because you may.
This is why we were born!
