Sermon Title: "Birthmarks of God's Children"

Sermon Title: "Birthmarks of God's Children"

The Bible tells us that a Christian is a "new creation. . . The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." (2 Corinthians 5:17) In other words, when a person is of God, their old selves begin to fade away and their new selves begin to shin brighter than ever. This brings us to a question. What does a new self or "new creation", look like? In a sermon titled, "Birthmarks of God's Children", Pastor Ben will highlight three character traits that should be exhibited by every Christian. Each trait is a reflection of the God who saved us from our sin.

Overview: When a person receives Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, God put some identifying marks on them. Such marks are not physical birthmark, but a mark on their character that sets them apart from a lost and dying world. Such marks can also be referred to as traits.

Directions: Today, we will examine three traits of those who are born again. Such traits are what we will call, “birthmarks of God’s children”.
I. Unwavering faith in the truth. (v. 1a, 4-5)
II. Undeniable love for God and others. (v. 1b)
III. Unashamed obedience to the Word. (v. 2-3)
“Radical obedience to Christ is not easy... It's not comfort, not health, not wealth, and not prosperity in this world. Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And he is more than enough for us.”(David Platt)
Destination: The birthmarks of God’s children are faith, love, and obedience. Such character traits reflect the attributes of God Himself. In other words, our faith in Him stems from His faithfulness toward us. Our love for others is an outward expression of His love for us. Our obedience to Him mirrors His perfect righteous character, demonstrated by His Son, Jesus Christ.

Reflection: Use the private notes section below or your personal journal to put the message of these verses into your own words so you can communicate them with others.
