THE SEVEN SPIRITS OF GOD – Part 2
Isaiah 11:1 (KJV)
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:

1. This is a prophetic reference about Jesus and the lineage from which He will come from.

2. Here we see that:

a. King David was the stem of Jesse

b. Jesus was the rod or root from that stem

c. and the church is the branch that comes from the root

Isaiah 11:2 (KJV)
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

3. Here we see the seven spirits, or seven
ministries, of the Holy Spirit

a. meaning ...how He reveals Himself to others through you

#1. The Spirit of the Lord______________

Romans 8:11 (NLT)
The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.

4. How it relates to you - this shows that we have the Spirit of the Lord within us

a. meaning that we are connected to the highest power in the universe, God

#2. The Spirit of Wisdom_______________

5. How it relates to you - is the ability to know what scripture to use in any given situation.

Proverbs 13:1 (KJV)
A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

6. Wisdom is obtained through mentor ship.

7. A believer who is willing to listen and learn from others is wise.

Proverbs 13:1 (MSG)
Intelligent children listen to their parents; foolish children do their own thing.

8. This especially includes “spiritual children”.

#3. The Spirit of Understanding__________

James 1:22 (MSG)
Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear!

9. How it relates to you - the ability to effectively walk out a scripture to any given situation.

#4. The Spirit of Counsel_______________

Proverbs 15:22 (MSG)
Refuse good advice and watch your plans fail; take good counsel and watch them succeed.

10. How it relates to you - the humbleness to ask others for guidance and direction.

John 5:19 (MSG)
So Jesus explained himself at length. "I'm telling you this straight. The Son can't independently do a thing, only what he sees the Father doing. What the Father does, the Son does.

11. Jesus set the model for this.

#5. The Spirit of Might_________________

Mark 9:23 (MSG)
Jesus said, "If? There are no 'ifs' among believers. Anything can happen."

12. How it relates to you- is knowing that the power of believing can make anything possible.

#6. The Spirit of Knowledge____________

Proverbs 1:7 (NLT)
Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

13. How it relates to you - you acknowledge that you don’t know everything.

a. and accept dependency from God

#7. The Spirit of the Fear of the Lord______

14. How it relates to you - this is maintaining a respect and reverence for God.

15. These seven Spirits of God:

a. are also referred to as the sevenfold anointing of the Messiah

b. which rests upon the root ...Jesus

c. and also rest upon the branch...Church

d. but we also see something else

Isaiah 11:2 (KJV)
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;

16. After the Spirit of the Lord:

a. notice that the he next six spirits or anointings

b. are mentioned in groups of two

c. the spirit of wisdom and understanding

d. the spirit of counsel and might

e. the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord

Hebrews 10:1 (MSG)
The old plan was only a hint of the good things in the new plan. Since that old "law plan" wasn't complete in itself, it couldn't complete those who followed it. No matter how many sacrifices were offered year after year, they never added up to a complete solution.
17. So what does this pattern show us?

a. for that we need to go back to the OT

b. our answer is found in the Tabernacle

Exodus 25:31-32 (NLT)
31 “Make a lampstand of pure, hammered gold. Make the entire lampstand and its decorations of one piece—the base, center stem, lamp cups, buds, and petals. 32 Make it with six branches going out from the center stem, three on each side.

18. Here we see the blueprint for making the lampstand, the menorah.

19. Notice from the center stem comes six branches.

a. we also see the original menorah

b. that the earthly one was fashioned after
in heaven

Revelation 4:5 (KJV)
And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

20. Even though seven Spirits are mentioned,

a. but this does not mean that there are seven Holy Spirits

a. nor does it mean that the Holy Spirit has six brothers, cousins or nephews

21. The mentioning:

a. of these seven ministries in this way

b. points to the golden lampstand

Revelation 4:5 (MSG)
Lightning flash and thunder crash pulsed from the Throne. Seven fire-blazing torches fronted the Throne (these are the Sevenfold Spirit of God).

22. This is the Holy Spirit...

a. since He is referred to as seven lamps of burning fire

b. when you read lightnings and thunderings and voices

c. it is a reference to the Holy Spirit’s presence

23. Here we see that the Holy Spirit is compared to lamps of fire.

a. this comparison to a lamp

b. suggests the Holy Spirit’s ability to illuminate

c. and to show and to reveal

24. One of the first ministries of the Holy Spirit

a. is to reveal to you areas of your life
b. which need to become aligned with God’s Word

Revelation 1:4 (KJV)
John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;

25. The candlestick symbolizes the Holy Spirit (Seven Spirits of God).

26. So, the spirit of the LORD is the center shaft, the stem of the menorah.

27. And the...

a. the spirit of wisdom and understanding
b. the spirit of counsel and might

c. the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord

28. ...Are the Branches of the menorah.

a. understand that the original menorah only had seven lights

Revelation 5:6 (KJV)
And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

29. We know the Lamb is Jesus.

a. here we see Him in the fullness of the Holy Spirit

b. horns symbolize power

c. eyes are symbolic of revelation

30. So we see in these in these verses...
a. that there are three aspects

b. of the seven ministries of the Holy Spirit

31. These are referred to as:

a. seven lamps

b. seven horns

c. and seven eyes

32. Let’s break these down.

#1. THE HOLY SPIRIT AS A LAMP_________

33. This is where the Holy Spirit focuses...

a. His light on the things in your character

b. you thought you had gotten rid of years ago

34. These things had been pushed back and hidden until the light was turned on

a. which is revealed to you

b. when God knows you can handle it

Psalms 119:105 (KJV)
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

35. For example:

a. someone rubs you the wrong way

b. old feelings that had not risen up in a long time begin to surface

36. The Holy Spirit is:

a. illuminating these feelings

b. so that you can correct them

C. and get them in line with God’s Word

37. The Holy Spirit is referred to as:

a. a lamp of fire because one of His ministries is to illuminate, or reveal

#2. THE HOLY SPIRIT AS HORNS______

38. This is where the Holy Spirit...

a. gives you strength and power

b. to go through life’s difficulties

39, The number even symbolizes rest.

a. on the 7th day God rested

40. So seven horns shows that we will:

a. have a supernatural rest\peace

b. as we go through different challenges

c. and another example is found in...

Acts 3:7-8 (KJV)
7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

41. The Holy Spirit infused the mans legs with strength.

#3. THE HOLY SPIRIT AS EYES________

42. By this aspect, we see that the Holy Spirit...

a. in us can see things coming

b. which cannot be seen with the natural eye or understanding

John 16:13 (KJV)
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

43. Holy Spirit can reveal the future to us all by Himself.

a. He does not need to use a person to give us a personal word

b. you don’t have to go running around seeking “a word” from someone else

44. BUT...WHAT DOES THS HAVE TO DO WITH YOU?______________________

Proverbs 20:27 (NLT)
The LORD’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive.

45. It is by searching man that God brings to light what is in us.

Proverbs 20:27 (MSG)
GOD is in charge of human life, watching and examining us inside and out.

46. Originally, man was connected to the central shaft of the menorah.

a. when Adam was created in the image of God

b. that must mean that man had the seven- fold manifestation of the Holy Spirit

c. this was lost when man sinned and transgressed against God

47. At that moment...

a. Adam fell from the level of walking with God

b. to falling to the level of the devil

48. Humanity lost the anointing by dying spiritually that day.

Colossians 1:13-14 (NLT)
13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

49. Humanity became spiritually dead and was identified with the kingdom of satan.

a. when this happened...

b. Adam also lost his ability to know...
c. the future

Genesis 3:10 (KJV)
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

50. Remember the first thing Adam said to the Lord after he had sinned, “. . . I was afraid”

a. he no longer knew what was going to happen to him

51. Fear always focuses on an assumed future...

a. the fear of the unknown

52. This gives rise to uncertainty.

a. which robs us of our peace

53. That’s why God asked Adam...

Genesis 3:9 (KJV)
And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

54. Did God know where Adam was?

a. yes

55. Adam no longer knew where he was with God.

56. But when you are connected to the Holy Ghost...

John 14:26 (KJV)
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

57. The Holy Spirit was originally present so that ...

a. mankind did not have to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil

b. because man had the Holy Spirit to teach him

c. how do you think Adam got the ability to name all the animals

John 14:27 (KJV)
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

58. The absence of the Holy spirit ushers the entrance to the spirit of fear.

John 16:13 (NLT)
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future.

59. Adam hid because:

a. he no longer knew his future

b. because he was now naked

c. without a covering

60. Did Adam have the Holy Spirit since he was created after the image of God?

1 Corinthians 15:45 (KJV)
And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

61. Looking at this verse, it looks like the answer is ‘no’.

a. until we define the word ‘made’

made - Gk - ginomai - to become

- to come to pass

Genesis 1:27 (KJV)
So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

62. Adam wasn’t made, he was created.

63. Now we get the impression that when Adam fell;

a. he became spiritually dead - ‘shall surely die’

b. and he became a living soul, feelings, emotions, thought dominated

c. how do we validate this

Genesis 3:6 (KJV)
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

64. It was their soul that was enticed and tempted.
a. and they reaped what they sowed

Romans 8:6-7 (NLT)
6 (NLT) So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. 7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will.

65. (KJV) calls it a ‘ carnal mind’.

a. it’s at war with God

b. because it doesn’t want to be told what to do

1 John 4:4 (KJV)
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

66. There is not one enemy which can come against you

a. that one of these sevenfold anointings in you cannot handle

Isaiah 11:3 (NLT)
He will delight in obeying the LORD. He will not judge by appearance nor make a decision based on hearsay.

67. Walking with the Holy Spirit eliminates the need for God to ‘show you a sign’.

Romans 9:1 (NLT)
With Christ as my witness, I speak with utter truthfulness. My conscience and the Holy Spirit confirm it.

68. We think that we are rarely led by the Holy Spirit...

a. but what we don’t realize is that even
Decisions we think are unimportant

b. are usually made with the leading of the Holy Spirit

John 15:5 (NLT)
“Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

69. Evidence of the Holy spirit working in us...

a. is by allowing Him to help us as branches

b. bear much fruit
70. But, the branches is also the Church...

a. which is supposed to be bearing fruit also

71. Now, what is fruit?

a. fruit - Gk - karpos - plucked fruit

- fruit that is ready to be consumed

72. What are the Seven Spirits of God...

a. the Holy Ghost

b. trying to produce in our life

Galatians 5:22-23 (KJV)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

73. Whose fruit is it?

a. the fruit of...the Spirit

74. His motive in doing so?

Romans 8:29 (MSG)
God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him.

75. So we would become like Jesus.

a. so we must bear the Spirits fruit

Fruit #1. Love - Gk - agape - divine love

a. a strong, tender, compassionate, devotion to the well-being of someone else

76. Jesus met the needs of others.

Fruit #2. Joy - Gk - chara - emotional excitement, gladness

a. delight over blessings received or expected for self and for others
77. Jesus delighted in blessing others.

a. i.e. feeding the multitudes

Fruit #3. Peace - Gk - eirene - the state of quietness, rest, harmony, order

a. the sense of security in the midst of turmoil, strife, and temptations

78. When storms arose, He didn’t freak out.

Fruit #4. Longsuffering - Gk - makrothumia - patient endurance

a. to bear long with the frailties, offenses, injuries, and provocations of others

b. without murmuring, repining, or resentment

79. In the midst of frustration, He remained calm.

a. ‘how much longer must I be with you’

Fruit #5. Gentleness. Gk - chrestotes - kind

a. even-tempered in character and conduct

80. Opposition did not become barriers to Him.

Fruit #6. Goodness. Gk - agathosune - virtuous, benevolent

a. generous, and God-like in life and conduct

81. He empowered others to do the father’s will.

Fruit #7. Faith. Gk - pistis - inward confidence, assurance, trust

a. a steadfast reliance in God and all that He says

82. Jesus continually reminded others to believe.

Fruit #8. Meekness. Gk - praotes - to be indulgent, even balanced in tempers

a. passionate, and patient in suffering wrong or injuries without feelings of revenge

83. On the cross he could have called legions of angels...but He didn’t.

Fruit #9. Temperance. Gk - engkrateia - self-control

84. He didn’t let the inconsistencies of others get to Him.

85. So from the very beginning...

a. through the image of the menorah

b. and by the prophecies of old

86. It was God’s intention to restore us.

a. as it was before Adam fell

87. But on our own we could not do that.

a. the Law of Moses proved that

88. And we are to share the Holy Spirit operating in our lives.

1 Corinthians 12:7 (MSG)
Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people!

89. These are the nine manifestations of the Spirit.

a. nine fruits

b. nine gifts

90. But that’s another teaching within itself.
