In the Bible, Gog and Magog are the names of the enemies of God's people.

There are two different Gog and Magog used in the Bible.

They are separated by at least 1,000 years.

It is important to recognize that


a. the Gog and Magog of Ezekiel 38-39 is


b. is different from the one in Revelation 20:7-8.

Gog is a ruler from the land of Magog.

Ezekiel 39:21-29

This battle is used by God to bring Israel back to Him.

Gog and Magog are nations under the dominion of satan.

In Rev. 20, Israel has been faithful to God for 1,000 years


a. during the millennial kingdom

Those in this battle


a. are the rebellious kingdom resisters


b. who are destroyed without any more opportunity for repentance

While these two passages use the same names,


a. a close study shows they do not


b. refers to the same people and events

In Ezekiel’s prophecy,


a. Gog will be the leader of a great army


b. that attacks the land of Israel

Magog is used to refer to "northern barbarians"


a. mostly those north of Israel


b. but also has a connection to Magog the person

Gog / Magog / Rosh = Russia


Meshech / Tubal / Gomer / Beth-Togarmah = Turkey


Persia = Iran


Put = Libya


Ethiopia = Ethiopia

The people of Magog are described as skilled warriors.

When will Ezekiel’s battle of Gog and Magog occur?

There are a couple of theories:

In this battle, the people of Israel


a. will be burning the enemy’s weapons for seven years


b. and spend over seven months burying the dead

That length of time requires


a. the battle to be fought before the tribulation


b. and possibly before the rapture of the church


c. in our lifetime

This view hinges on the fact that


a. Israel is at peace when the attack begins

The security Israel has is


a. the result of Israel’s covenant with the antichrist


b. at the beginning of the tribulation


c. also known as Daniel’s 70th Week (Daniel 9:27)

Magog will not win


a. God will intervene to shield Israel

The result is that the nations will see God’s greatness and holiness.

The land of Israel will be occupied for another 1,000 years,


a. it is the length of the millennial kingdom reign (Rev.20:4–6).

The book of Revelation uses Ezekiel’s prophecy


a. about Magog to show a final


b. end-times attack on the nation of Israel

The result of this battle is


a. that all are destroyed


b. and satan will be cast into the lake of fire

The duplicated use of the names Gog and Magog


a. in Revelation 20:8-9 and in Ezekiel 38-39.


b. is to show that both groups of people existing have


c. the same rebellious attitude and antagonism toward God


d. it is compared to calling a person "the devil"


e. because he or she is sinful and evil

We know that person is not really satan


a. but because that person shares similar characteristics,


b. he or she might be referred to as the devil

The armies come from the north


a. and involve only a few nations of the earth


b. motivated by the spirit of the antichrist


c. Ezekiel 38:6, 15; 39:2

It will involve all nations,


a. armies will come from all directions


b. not just from the north


c. motivated by satan himself

There IS NO mention of satan in the context of Ezekiel 38-39.

There IS mention of satan in Revelation 20:7


a. the context clearly places the battle


b. at the end of the Millennium


c. with satan as the leader

States that the dead will be buried for seven months.

There would be no need to bury the dead


a. if the battle in Ezekiel 38—39


b. is the one described in Rev. 20:8–9


c. because immediately following that battle


d. is the Great White Throne judgment(Rev. 20:11–15)


e. and then the present heaven and earth are destroyed


f. replaced by a new heaven and earth (Rev. 21:1)


g. so there will be a need to bury the dead


h. if the battle takes place before


i. or in the early part of the tribulation

God is giving a command to open the gates to the underworld.


a. why?

To release the giants to wreak havoc on the earth...again.

A great final conflict is coming at the end of the Millennium


a. after satan has been bound for a 1,000 years

b. they slew Gogmagog


c. and took possession of Britain


d. making Brutus the founder of London
