No Wall Too Tall: Renewing the Covenant

No Wall Too Tall: Renewing the Covenant

Pastor Nathan Wakefield continues our No Wall Too Tall sermon series through Joshua. This week we revisit Joshua 8 to remember that we need to take advantage of the divine memorials that God has set up by practicing those memorials. Video of the worship service is available beginning Sunday at 9:30 AM at https://southviewbaptist.org/live.

Locations & Times

Southview Baptist Church

3434 S 13th St, Lincoln, NE 68502, USA

Sunday 9:30 AM

1. God's words, promises, and acts are worth recounting (30‑35).

• In the wake of major victories, it was time to remember.
• Joshua performed three actions to lead the people through covenant renewal.
• Joshua led the people in corporate reading of the Law.

Action: Commit to reading your Bible daily this week (5 min., 10 min. 30 min. 60 min.)
2. Christ's payment for sins is worth recounting (1 Cor. 11:23‑29).

• The proclamation of the Lord's Supper is significant (26).
• The seriousness of the Lord's Supper demands attention (27‑29).

Action: Use confession to prepare your heart to remember what Christ has done.
Confession
Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws. Lord, forgive us not because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy which led you to send your Son to pay for our sins.
The memorial of the Lord's Supper should be celebrated (23‑26).

Action: Let's practice the Lord's supper together.
3. Your personal decision to place your complete faith in Christ is worth recounting (Acts 2:36‑41).

• The nagging question we each must answer is that of what do we do with our sin (36‑37).
• The solution you need is to repent and believe in Christ's atonement (38‑39).
• The natural next step is baptism (40‑41).

Action: As we baptize today, recall your own commitment to trust Christ.
