(1 Thessalonians 5:17) “Never stop praying.” (NLT)
They say, “Practice Makes Perfect.”
In actuality, practice makes permanent.
(Hebrew 5:11-14) “of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.”For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe.” But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (NKJV)
(Job 33:14) “God does speak – now one way, now another –though man may not perceive it.” (NIV)

God’s a talking God, always speaking.
We’re a talking people, rarely listening.
As a believer, we grow spiritually
at the rate our spirit grows.
How to H.E.A.R. from God:

Expect the Unexpected
Anticipate – expectation is invitation.
Reason of use.

Practice the Basics
1) Word
(John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (ESV)
a) Logos - “written word of God.”
(Hebrews 4:12) For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (ESV)
b) Rhema - “spirit-breathed word of God.”
(Matthew 4:4) But He answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (ESV)
(Romans 10:17) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (ESV)

A) Read
(John 15:3) Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. (ESV)
You read the Word to get It in your head.
You meditate on It to get It in your heart.
B) Meditate.
(Joshua 1:8) This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

2 Prayer
A) Talk
B) Ask
(James 4:2b) “You do not have because you do not ask.” (ESV)
C) Listen
(Ecclesiastes 5:1-2) Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. To draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil. 2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few. (ESV)

3) Obey
(Isaiah 50:4-5) The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue,to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears;I have not been rebellious,I have not turned away. (NIV)
You don’t have it when you learn it,
you have it when you do it.
