In actuality, practice makes permanent.

God’s a talking God, always speaking.

Practice the Basics

1) Word


(John 1:1) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (ESV)


a) Logos - “written word of God.”

(Hebrews 4:12) For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. (ESV)

b) Rhema - “spirit-breathed word of God.”

(Matthew 4:4) But He answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” (ESV)

(Romans 10:17) So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (ESV)

A) Read

(John 15:3) Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. (ESV)


You read the Word to get It in your head.

You meditate on It to get It in your heart.


B) Meditate.
(Joshua 1:8) This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

C) Listen

(Ecclesiastes 5:1-2) Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. To draw near to listen is better than to offer the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they are doing evil. 2 Be not rash with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God, for God is in heaven and you are on earth. Therefore let your words be few. (ESV)

3) Obey

(Isaiah 50:4-5) The Sovereign Lord has given me a well-instructed tongue,to know the word that sustains the weary.He wakens me morning by morning,wakens my ear to listen like one being instructed. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears;I have not been rebellious,I have not turned away. (NIV)

You don’t have it when you learn it,

you have it when you do it.
