Today's message continues our series "Our Story God's Story" with an interview with Katie Curtis. Katie is a recent high school graduate and has grown up in StoneBridge Community Church. Her interview reveals her passion about the way God is using her in this world. Her interview is ther starting point for Ryan's reflection on Pentecost and the way the Holy Spirit "speaks" through us.

Sermon Outline

1. Introduction & Scripture

2. What is Pentecost?

3. Who does the Spirit "speak" through?

4. The Priesthood of all Believers

5. Discernment and Vision

Understanding the historical context of Pentecost

Pentecost is the Ancient Greek word for the Festival of Weeks. A Jewish festival marking the revelation of Torah by God to Moses and the Israelites.

Understanding the Priesthood of all Believers

Our denomination, the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA), has written about what it means to be priests in the Bible, how the Reformers viewed their theological doctrine, and how it relates to us today.

1) Spend time this week meditating on how you have seen God "speak" in your life.

2) Read over the story of Pentecost for yourself, consider Peter's quoting of the Prophet Joel. What stands out to you?

3) Take time to pray and consider your own spiritual gifts this week and how they might be used by God.

1. How do you feel God might be "speaking" through you?

2. What are some of your spiritual gifts that you can used to serve your community?

3. How do you use loving your neighbor and loving God as your beginning point and lens for discernment of God's will?

Starting the first weekend in September, StoneBridge will be launching a new, fall series – called Intended for Good.
